About DejaShot

DejaShot is made by SoneaLabs, a small studio in Mumbai, India. It’s a Mac app that reads the text in your screenshots, so you can search them by what you remember.

Why it exists

A screenshot is the quickest way to keep something. An error, a price, a booking, a design you liked. Then it lands on your Mac named for the second you took it, and nothing remembers what was in it or which app it came from.

You know you took it. You just can’t get it back. DejaShot is for that moment.

What it believes

  1. 01

    Everything stays on your Mac.

Reading and searching happen on your Mac. Your screenshots, their text and where they came from stay in a library there.

  2. 02

    No account.

There’s nothing to sign up for. The license key from your purchase email is all it asks for.

  3. 03

    No telemetry.

It doesn’t report what you search or what it reads. It goes online only to activate your license, to check in about every two weeks, and to check for updates.

  4. 04

    The screenshots you already have.

It reads the folders you choose, newest first, then keeps reading new screenshots as you take them. You don’t change how you take them.

What it is, and what it isn’t

It is

  • A search for your screenshots: a word in them, the app, or roughly when.
  • A note of the app that was in front, for screenshots taken while DejaShot is running. Older screenshots are read for their text only.
  • A Mac app, for macOS 14 or later.

It isn’t

  • A capture tool. Keep ⌘⇧4, CleanShot or whatever you use now.
  • A screen recorder. It never watches your screen and never needs Screen Recording.
  • A cloud service. Nothing is uploaded or shared.

How the guides are written

Each guide shows the way built into macOS first, then where DejaShot helps. The step-by-step ones say which version of macOS they were tested on, and every guide lists its sources.

Each comparison checks what it says about the other app against that app’s own site, and gives the day it was checked.
